A backwashing filter is a water filter that cleans itself periodically by rinsing away impurities it has filtered from water.
A backwashing filter is a simple device that consists of a large tank called a “mineral tank” that is filled with a filtering substance called a filter medium. (The plural is media.) Water enters the top of the tank through a special control valve and passes downward through the medium, which removes impurities and holds them. The treated water then enters a tube at the bottom of the mineral tank, passes upward through the tube (called a riser), and exits the filter via the control valve.
When the filter medium is saturated with contaminants, the control valve initiates a backwash. The backwash is an operation in which water passes backward through the filter at a rapid rate. It enters the tank at the bottom via the riser tube, and then passes upward through the filter medium, exiting at the top, via the control valve. The rapid upward flow, in addition to washing away stored impurities, fluffs and resettles the medium bed, preparing it for another filtering cycle.
When a backwash filter contains Coconut Carbon, it will remove chlorine, the by-products of chlorination, pesticides, herbicides, Volatile Organics and chemicals in general.
Coconut Carbon is an outstanding material for improving the taste, odor of your water as well as removal of dissolved organic chemicals. Coconut Carbon contains a very high surface area resulting in exceptionally high absorption and removal efficiency. This carbon is very durable, and will provide a high “polish” to the filtered water, yielding great tasting water. Coconut Carbon has an extremely high capacity but must be replaced when the filter bed loses the capacity for reduction of taste and odor.
We recommend replacement of the filter bed of a 1 cu foot filter every two years and the filter bed of a 2 cu foot filter every three years to maintain optimal performance.
The backwash carbon tank is added to a sediment filter which assists in the filtration of red clay, sand, silt, scale and rust. The sediment filter will help to protect the up flow carbon tank from excessive sediment.
* Installation is separately priced per job and is estimated to run $350 - $450.00
Big Blue Housing
Housings come in 10” and 20” length
10” for small home filtration
20” for medium and large home filtration
Standard housings are ideal substitutes for costly low pressure stainless steel vessels. These filter housings offer the versatility to meet all of your large-capacity filtration needs, including high-flow and heavy-sediment applications. The extra large housing allows for greater cartridge capacity, reducing the number of vessels required for high-flow rate applications.
Dual Gradient Density Filters work as a pre and post filter all in one, eliminating the need for step-down filtration systems in your home. The outer layer is a 75 micron pre-filter that takes out larger sediment, thus reducing the load on the 25 micron inner-layer post filter allowing it to operate more efficiently and consistently.
Reduces Sediment, Sand, Silt, Rust, Scale and red clay.
